The former president Muhammadu Buhari who was Nigeria’s President from 2015 to 2023 has been reported dead in a clinic in London after a brief illness in the evening of Sunday 13th of July. He also served as the military Head of State between January 1984 and August 1985. Buhari’s death was confirmed in a terse statement by his former special adviser, Garba Shehu, on Sunday evening.

The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR and called on Nigerians and the world to remember them in prayer at this trying time.

However, the nature of the illness was not disclosed. The former president had been in London for the last couple of days undergoing treatment before his death on Sunday.
Buhari passed away at a clinic in London, where he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness, at 4:30 pm on Sunday. His former media spokesman, Garba Shehu, disclosed this via X on Sunday.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu, who mourned the passing of his predecessor, has mandated the Vice President Kashim Shettima to London. Tinubu directed Shettima to accompany Buhari’s corpse back to Nigeria for burial
