The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has expressed it’s determination to N1.28 trillion revenue target in 2025, comprising N544 billion from ship dues, N413 billion from cargo dues and about N250 billion from concession fees. The authority also expects to earn no less than N73 billion from administrative charges.
The MD, Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, revealed this during the 2025 budget defence session organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Ports and Harbours, recently in Abuja.
Dr Dantsoba noted that the 2025 revenue target represented a 40% increase from the N894.8 billion it realised in 2024, though the authority surpassed its revenue target of N865.39 billion, as it realised N894.86 billion.
“This shows our unwavering commitment to national revenue generation, even when our own operational liquidity is affected. Our 2025 budget goes beyond figures. It reflects the authority’s aspirations for a more efficient, globally competitive port system,” Dantsoho said.
Speaking, the Chairman of the committee, Nnolim Nnaji noted that the ports system remained a critical pillar of Nigeria’s economy and urged the NPA to meet rising expectations despite its operational challenges.
According to him, the NPA must ramp up its performance, improve port infrastructure and play a greater role in addressing Nigeria’s revenue and unemployment challenges.
He said: “No country can thrive economically without high-performing ports. They are the economic heartbeat of every nation, determining how buoyant a country is through the flow of imports and exports.
“The NPA is not just a revenue-generating agency, but also a national asset in terms of employment and economic impact.
“We expect to see detailed strategies on how to improve revenue generation and expand employment opportunities through your 2025 budget
