It was with plethora of joy that Kabiyesi, the Olu of Iwa and Apapa kingdom, Oba Oyekunle Moroof Atanda Amodu Tijani Oluwa, welcomed all his guests, including the CONMMEP members and other friends to his palace in Tolu Community, Ajegunle at the Ileya festival on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
The event was a testament to the monarch’s commitment to community and religious heritage.
Ileya festival, also known as Eid al-Adha or Eid-el-Kabir, is a significant Islamic festival celebrated by Yoruba people, particularly in Nigeria. “Ileya” translates to “time to go home” in Yoruba, reflecting the tradition of family reunions during this time. The festival commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience to Allah, involving the sacrifice of a ram as a substitute. It’s a time of celebration, prayer, and giving, with many families sacrificing animals, sharing the meat with others, and wearing festive attire.
The afternoon gathering was marked by merriment, enlightening discourse, and the exchange of valuable ideas. Kabiyesi’s celebration of Sallah was characterized by regal simplicity, reflecting his dedication to the values of Islam.
